WhatsApp call recording guide
How to Record WhatsApp Calls on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac
You can try your device’s screen recorder or a computer recording tool during a WhatsApp call. A saved video does not prove that it captured both people’s voices, so make a short test and listen back before relying on it.
Before you record
Tell everyone on the call that you intend to record and get their consent first. Recording laws vary by location. If the conversation matters, verify that the file contains both voices before the full call.
How to record a WhatsApp call on Android
- 1Start or answer the WhatsApp call.
- 2Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and tap Screen record. Add it to Quick Settings if it is not visible.
- 3Choose an audio option if your phone offers one, then tap Start.
- 4To finish, swipe down and tap the screen recorder notification. Find the video in Photos or Gallery.
An option such as “Media sounds and mic” is worth trying, but it does not guarantee both voices. Android restricts which audio another app can capture, including ordinary playback capture of voice communication.

How to record a WhatsApp call on iPhone
- 1Add Screen Recording to Control Center if it is not already there.
- 2Start the WhatsApp call and open Control Center.
- 3Touch and hold Screen Recording, turn on Microphone, then tap Start Recording.
- 4Stop recording from the control at the top of the screen. Find the video in Photos.
Turning on the microphone may capture sound near the iPhone, but it does not ensure that the other person’s WhatsApp audio is in the file. Apple says some apps may prevent audio or video recording.

How to record a WhatsApp call on Windows
- 1Open the call in WhatsApp Desktop or, if calling is available to your account, WhatsApp Web.
- 2Press Windows key + G to open Xbox Game Bar.
- 3Under Settings → Capturing, select All to include computer audio, and check that the microphone is enabled.
- 4Press Windows key + Alt + R to start and stop recording. Find the MP4 in Videos → Captures.
WhatsApp Web calling is being rolled out gradually. If your browser has no call option, try the desktop app. Play back a short recording to confirm that both voices were captured.

How to record a WhatsApp call on Mac
- 1Start the call in WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web.
- 2Press Shift + Command + 5, or open QuickTime Player → File → New Screen Recording.
- 3In Options, choose a microphone for your voice. On macOS 27 or later, select Include System Audio if available.
- 4Record the screen, then click Stop in the menu bar. The default save location is the Desktop.
On earlier macOS versions, selecting a microphone in QuickTime does not by itself capture WhatsApp’s audio output. Even with system audio enabled, test the file because call audio may be restricted.

Why is my WhatsApp call recording silent?
The recorder may have captured the screen but could not capture call audio. Check that microphone recording is enabled, that the recorder has microphone permission, and that the right input device is selected. Then record a brief call and listen for both voices.
If one side is missing, another “media audio” setting may still be unable to capture it. Agree on a recording method with the other participants and verify the result before the conversation you need to keep.
Frequently asked questions
Can WhatsApp record calls automatically?
WhatsApp’s documented call controls do not include a standard record button. Recording depends on your phone or computer and whether it can capture call audio.
Does screen recording capture both sides of a WhatsApp call?
Sometimes, but do not assume it will. Your device, operating system, audio settings and capture restrictions affect the result. Play back a short test before relying on it.
Where are WhatsApp call recordings saved?
Android recordings usually appear in Photos or Gallery; iPhone recordings appear in Photos; Xbox Game Bar saves to Videos → Captures; and Mac screen recordings normally save to the Desktop unless you choose another location.
