Device-by-device WhatsApp export guide
Export an individual or group conversation from WhatsApp as a TXT or ZIP file, then open it in MyChatWrap. This detailed guide covers iPhone, Android and common mobile share-sheet problems, including the frustrating moment when “Save to Files,” “Files,” “My Files” or a file manager does not appear.

Open the conversation in WhatsApp, open the contact or group information, choose Export chat, and normally select Without media for the smallest, fastest file. On iPhone, use Save to Files when it appears. On Android, choose Files, My Files, Files by Google, Drive or another storage destination. If none appears, choose WhatsApp in the share panel, send the export to your own “You” or “Message yourself” chat, download that attachment, note its exact filename, and select it from MyChatWrap’s file picker.
The guide below mirrors the recovery help shown after a mobile file picker closes without a selection. Menu labels vary by device, but the send-to-yourself fallback avoids depending on a particular file-manager app.

Use WhatsApp’s Message yourself chat as the recovery bridge.
TXT / ZIP
Exact filename
Open the chat information, tap Export Chat, choose a media option, and use Save to Files—or send the export to yourself when that action is unavailable.
Use ⋮ › More › Export chat, then save through Files, My Files, Files by Google or Drive when one is offered.
Choose WhatsApp in the share panel and send the generated TXT or ZIP to your own Message yourself conversation.
Note the attachment’s exact filename, download it, reopen MyChatWrap and search for that name in the mobile picker.
Without media normally produces the smallest text export; some phones still wrap it in ZIP. With media usually produces a larger ZIP.
The exported file is for reading, analysis and archiving. It cannot normally be imported into WhatsApp to restore the conversation.
Open the individual or group chat and choose Export chat from its information or More menu. Select Without media unless you specifically need the attached files.
Save through Files, My Files, Files by Google or Drive. If those choices are missing, share the export to your own WhatsApp chat and download the attachment from there.
Open this page’s picker, browse Recent or Downloads, or search for the exact filename. Choose the exported TXT or ZIP—not an encrypted backup file.
Two minutes on your phone. Choose your device, follow the taps, then come back and add the file above.
Watch the whole flow — export from WhatsApp, then drop the file into this app.
Open WhatsApp and enter the individual or group conversation. Tap the contact or group name at the top to open Chat Info, scroll down, and tap Export Chat. WhatsApp then asks whether to attach media. Choose Without Media for analysis, statistics or a text-based PDF; it is faster and usually much smaller. Choose Attach Media only when you need the included photos, videos, documents or voice-note files.
Wait for iOS to prepare the export and open the share sheet. If Save to Files appears, tap it, select On My iPhone, iCloud Drive or a folder you recognize, then tap Save. Remember the folder and filename. Return to MyChatWrap, open the file picker and check Recents or that folder.
The iOS share sheet can vary with installed apps and device settings. The generated export may be a TXT file or a ZIP package, including on some Without Media exports. MyChatWrap accepts both formats, so do not unzip it merely to make the upload work.
Open WhatsApp and enter the conversation. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, choose More, then Export chat. Select Without media for a compact export or Include media when you truly need the attachments. WhatsApp prepares the file and opens Android’s share panel.
The storage destination has different names on different phones. Google Pixel and many other devices use Files or Files by Google. Samsung commonly uses My Files. Other manufacturers may show File Manager, Downloads, Drive or a cloud-storage app. Choose an available destination, save the file, and look in Recent files or Downloads when MyChatWrap opens the picker.
If WhatsApp does not show Export chat inside the three-dot menu, open More first. Menu placement and capitalization can change between WhatsApp versions, so update WhatsApp and check the conversation menu rather than the main Chats screen.
You do not need to install or locate a particular file-manager app to finish the export. Return to WhatsApp’s export share panel and choose WhatsApp itself as the destination. Select your own conversation, normally labeled You or Message yourself, and send the generated export file to yourself.
Open the Message yourself chat and locate the attached TXT or ZIP. Before downloading it, note the exact filename displayed on the attachment. Download or save the attachment to the phone. Then return to MyChatWrap, tap the upload area, and search for that exact filename in the system file picker. It will often appear in Recent files or Downloads after it has been downloaded.
This is the same recovery method MyChatWrap shows when a mobile visitor closes the chat file picker without selecting a file. It works around missing Save to Files, Files Manager, My Files or Drive actions because WhatsApp temporarily carries the export into a conversation you can reopen and download from.
WhatsApp does not always save exports automatically. It creates the export and hands it to the operating system’s share panel. The final location therefore depends on the destination you selected. Save to Files may place it in iCloud Drive or On My iPhone; an Android files app may place it in Downloads; Drive stores it in the chosen Google Drive folder; email leaves it as an attachment rather than a local file until downloaded.
Start with the file picker’s Recent view, then check Downloads, On My iPhone, iCloud Drive, My Files, Files by Google or the cloud app you selected. Search by the exact filename whenever possible. If you only previewed the export in another app and never saved or downloaded it, return to WhatsApp and repeat the export.
Choose Without media when your goal is message statistics, a searchable transcript, a Chatbook based on text, or WhatsApp Wrapped. The timestamps, senders, message text and recognizable media placeholders are normally enough for those jobs, and the resulting export is easier to save and upload.
Choose Include media only when you need the actual exported attachments. The ZIP can become much larger and WhatsApp may limit how much history or how many files it can package. MyChatWrap currently accepts files up to 50 MB, so a text-only export is the dependable option for long chats.
Export chat creates a readable TXT file and, depending on the choice and device, a ZIP containing that transcript and possibly media. It is meant for reading, analysis or archiving outside WhatsApp. A WhatsApp backup is an encrypted restoration source associated with the app and account. A device-to-device chat transfer moves supported history into WhatsApp on another phone.
MyChatWrap needs the file produced by Export chat. It does not open crypt files, msgstore databases or an iCloud/Google Drive WhatsApp backup, and it cannot restore an exported TXT or ZIP back into WhatsApp.
A WhatsApp export can contain private names, timestamps, messages and attachments. Save it only to a destination you trust, avoid sending it to another person by mistake, and remove temporary copies when finished. Standard MyChatWrap parsing and deterministic analysis run in your browser; the chat content is not uploaded to the MyChatWrap server.
