What is a WhatsApp link?

A WhatsApp link is a wa.me URL such as https://wa.me/447700900123 that opens a chat with that number in the WhatsApp app or WhatsApp Web, without the visitor saving your number first. Adding ?text= puts a pre-filled message in the chat box. The visitor can edit it and still has to press send. Leave the number out and the link lets them choose any contact to send the message to.

How to create a WhatsApp link

How to format the number

wa.me links need the full international number as digits only: country code first, no plus sign, no leading 00 and no national 0. A UK mobile written 07700 900123 becomes 447700900123; an Indian number 098765 43210 becomes 919876543210.

The generator removes spaces, dashes, brackets and a leading + for you, and warns when a number still starts with 0 or has the wrong length.
