How is average WhatsApp message length calculated?

MyChatWrap divides each participant’s total counted words by that participant’s recognized text-message count. Non-text media events, system notices and deleted bodies do not enter the average. The result is displayed as a decimal number of words per text message; it describes writing format, not importance, sincerity or effort.

The exact formula

For each participant, average word count equals total whitespace-separated words divided by the number of recognized text messages they sent.

The card formats the result as a decimal. A value of 8.4 means an average of 8.4 counted word pieces per eligible text message during the selected data period.

What is included and excluded?

Only sender-attributed text messages enter the word average. Images, videos, voice notes, stickers, documents, deleted bodies and senderless system events do not.

A caption or placeholder contributes only when the parser classifies it as text content under the supported rules.

Average versus longest message

The longest-message tool finds an extreme record. Average message length describes the participant’s typical text size across all eligible messages.

One long paragraph may change the average in a small export, so inspect the number of text messages and selected period too.

Do longer messages mean more effort?

No. Writing style, language, device, context and whether somebody breaks thoughts into several bubbles all affect the number.

The metric cannot measure care, clarity, intelligence, sincerity or relationship investment.
