Private WhatsApp deleted message counter

Count deleted messages in a WhatsApp chat export

Count the deleted-message markers that remain in an exported WhatsApp conversation. MyChatWrap totals recognizable deleted entries, compares participants and tracks the count over time—without pretending it can recover the text that was removed.

Can you count deleted WhatsApp messages?

Yes, when WhatsApp leaves a recognizable “This message was deleted” entry with a sender and timestamp in the exported chat. MyChatWrap counts those markers overall and by participant. It cannot recover the deleted message body, count deletions that left no export record, or determine why a message was deleted.

A real deleted-message comparison preview

The preview uses the same participant comparison card as Dashboard › Overview with fictional counts. A count represents deletion markers, not recovered content.

This is the real participant comparison card populated with fictional deletion-marker counts. It counts recognizable placeholders and does not recover deleted content.

Total deleted markers

Count recognizable deleted-message entries present in the selected export.

Participant comparison

See how many attributable deletion markers belong to each recognized sender.

Percentage context

Compare deletion counts with total message activity instead of treating an isolated number as a verdict.

History over time

Review participant deletion counts across supported dashboard periods when enough history exists.

Included in message totals

A deleted marker remains a message event and is included in the sender’s overall message count.

Clear recovery boundary

The counter never claims to reveal, restore or infer the content behind a deleted marker.

What exactly is counted?

The counter counts parsed entries classified as deleted messages. These are placeholders WhatsApp leaves in the transcript, normally with a timestamp and sender.

Each recognized marker adds one to the chat-wide deleted type and, when a sender is available, one to that participant’s deleted count. The same event also remains part of the participant’s overall message total.

  • Recognizable deleted-message placeholders
  • One event per parsed marker
  • Participant attribution when sender data exists
  • No reading or reconstruction of deleted text

Counting is not recovering

A deletion marker confirms only that the exported transcript contains a deleted-message event. It does not contain the original words, attachment or reason for deletion.

Apps promising to reveal deleted content may rely on notification history, device backups or invasive permissions. This page analyzes only the export you deliberately select.

Why the count may be lower than expected

WhatsApp versions, languages and export formats use different deletion wording. A marker must be recognized by the parser, and a deletion that left no line in the export cannot be counted.

Older missing history, cleared chats, incomplete exports and unsupported localized phrases can reduce the total. Keep the original export when checking an unexpected result.

How to interpret participant counts

A higher number does not prove dishonesty, regret, manipulation or conflict. People delete accidental sends, wrong attachments, duplicated messages, sensitive information and simple typos.

Use the count as a descriptive export statistic. Do not treat it as recovered evidence or a psychological score.

What the counter can show

  • Recognized deleted-message markers in the export
  • Counts attributed to each participant
  • Comparison shares and supported period history
  • Deleted entries included in overall message totals

What it cannot show

  • The original text or attachment behind a deletion
  • Deletions that left no recognizable export marker
  • Why a participant deleted a message
  • Whether a deletion proves dishonesty, conflict or intent

Count markers without exposing recovered content

Standard parsing and deterministic counting happen in your browser. MyChatWrap does not connect to WhatsApp, inspect notification history or recover deleted bodies. The selected import is stored locally in that browser so the dashboard can reopen it.
