History packaged by WhatsApp
The transcript has an observable first and last timestamp. Anything before or after that range is not proven to be present.
Evidence-based WhatsApp export limit guide
There is no single message-count promise you should trust for every WhatsApp export. The useful answer is inside the file: export without media, inspect the first and last timestamps, compare the resulting range with the conversation, and record which attachments or message types are absent before relying on it.

WhatsApp’s current Help Center explains how to export with or without media but does not publish a universal message-count guarantee on that page. Numbers repeated online may describe an older app version, one device or one sharing method. Treat the exported TXT or ZIP as the result: count its parsed messages and verify its earliest and latest timestamps. Including media usually makes the package larger and can reduce how much can be shared successfully.
This fictional preview shows the measurements worth recording: exported message count, observed date range, file size and whether attachments were included. None is a guarantee about history outside the file.

The transcript has an observable first and last timestamp. Anything before or after that range is not proven to be present.
Including photos, videos, documents and audio creates a larger ZIP and adds attachment constraints that text-only exports avoid.
Email, messaging, cloud storage and the operating-system share sheet can each reject a file for their own size or timeout rules.
MyChatWrap currently accepts original WhatsApp TXT or ZIP exports up to 50 MB; that is a MyChatWrap input limit, not WhatsApp’s export limit.
Deleted, expired or otherwise unavailable material cannot be reconstructed merely because the visible conversation spans an older period.
WhatsApp’s official export guidance states that view-once messages are not exported.
Create the smallest transcript-first test and save the untouched TXT or ZIP to a destination you control.
Check the first timestamp, last timestamp, parsed message total, participant count and file size.
Open the source chat around both boundaries and document missing dates, message types or attachments.
Two minutes on your phone. Choose your device, follow the taps, then come back and add the file above.
Watch the whole flow — export from WhatsApp, then drop the file into this app.
Search results often repeat a text-only number and a smaller media-inclusive number as though both were permanent rules. Those figures may have described a particular WhatsApp version, platform or delivery method, but WhatsApp’s current export-help page does not give a universal count guarantee. App behavior, available history, device resources, media volume and the destination used to share the file can all affect the practical result.
A precise-looking number is therefore less useful than a reproducible check. If your TXT begins in March 2025 and ends in October 2026, that is the range the file demonstrates. It does not prove that every message visible in WhatsApp during that interval was packaged, and it says nothing about earlier history that is absent from the transcript.
Choose Without media when you need statistics, a searchable transcript, a text-based PDF or a first completeness check. The result is smaller because it excludes the attachment files, although recognizable media placeholders may remain in the transcript. A smaller export is also less likely to hit MyChatWrap’s 50 MB upload limit or a third-party sharing limit.
Choose Include media only when the actual exported attachments are necessary. The resulting ZIP can contain photos, video, documents, stickers or audio alongside the transcript, but size grows quickly. If a media export fails, retry without media before concluding that WhatsApp cannot export the conversation at all.
Keep the original file unchanged, then inspect a copy or parse it in MyChatWrap. Record the earliest recognized message, latest recognized message, total recognized messages and participants. For a group, note membership changes or system notices near the start because the first exported line may not be a participant message.
Open WhatsApp and navigate near the observed start and end dates. If older messages are visible in the app but absent from the file, say that plainly in any archive or evidence note. Do not fill the gap with screenshots and then describe the package as one continuous native export; label supplemental material separately.
The WhatsApp export result is created by WhatsApp. A share destination may then impose its own attachment size or timeout. MyChatWrap applies a separate 50 MB input limit. A WhatsApp backup is another format entirely: it is designed for restoration and may be much larger, but it cannot be treated as an exported TXT transcript.
If your export exceeds 50 MB, first create a Without media version. Do not split, rewrite or delete the only original when completeness matters. Preserve the original ZIP separately and create clearly named working copies for analysis.
WhatsApp’s Help Center documents Export chat, the With or Without media choice, and that the resulting text history cannot be re-imported because it is not a backup. The iPhone guidance also states that view-once messages are not exported. Those are reliable boundaries; a universal maximum message count is not stated on the current export-help page reviewed for this article.
Because app behavior can change, cite the current Help Center instead of copying a competitor’s number. For a high-stakes archive, retain the source device and original export and ask the recipient what completeness and format checks they require.
Exports may contain private names, timestamps and message text. Preserve the untouched original, use clearly named working copies, and avoid uploading it to unknown limit-checking sites. Standard MyChatWrap parsing stays in your browser and is not stored on the MyChatWrap server.
